IT’S NOT EASY TO DO SHOPPING TOGETHER

Friday is our shopping day. We buy food and other necessary things.
We always have arguments. My father thinks that we should buy only Russian goods. “Buying Russian goods we help our economy”, he always says. I agree with my dad’s argument in favour of Russian goods.
In contrast, my mother prefers brand name goods. She believes they are of better quality. Mum wants to buy Colgate toothpaste, but dad wants to buy the New Pearls toothpaste and so on. But everything ends up peacefully. We buy different items to please everybody.
My younger sister Olga is mad about brand name things, too. She likes buying things which are popular with others. She wants to fit in and to be just like her friends. I buy popular things only if I like them. If I like something without a brand name, I buy it. I think it’s more important to use your own taste in choosing what to wear and how to wear it.

MY IMPRESSIONOF RUSSIA

For my summer holidays I went to Russia. It made me aware that the Russian public transport system is better than British. Trams, the metro and trolleybuses are all great means of controlling pollution. In Britain we travel so much in our individual cars that in some major cities the air is made dirty. What is equally damaging is that most cars on the streets are usually occupied only by one person. I am not a die-hard environmentalist, but I do enjoy clean air and the prevention of further destruction of the ozone layer. The Moscow Metro is very efficient in getting most of its 11-million people where they want to go. The Metro is kept very clean and in good repair. The Tube in London and the subway in New York and other cities are not nearly as nice. Muscovites think that their traffic problems are bad. If so, the traffic in London is unbearable.
