English Language Fellows at the meeting in the American Center

English Language Fellows at the meeting in the American Center

Ten EFL specialists completed an orientation program in Moscow on October 10 in preparation for their assignment to locations in western Russia, the Urals, Siberia, and the Far East. The specialists – known as English Language Fellows – will assist Russian university professors, secondary school teachers, and elementary school teachers to learn American approaches to English language teaching. They will also support local educational objectives by providing Russian educators with new instructional aids and materials, helping them to participate in U.S. government-supported educational programs, and undertaking a variety of special projects, such as textbook writing, curriculum design, and materials development. Each of the Fellows will divide their time among universities and other educational institutions in the city in which they are based, but travel within their oblast and in neighboring oblasts to provide teacher training and to participate in conferences. The ten Fellows will be located in: Irkutsk, Kaliningrad, Khabarovsk, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Saratov, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Ufa, and Vladivostok where they will be hosted by local universities or other institutions of higher education. The English Language Program has been active in Russia since 1993 and is administered by the American Embassy’s English Language Office.
