Narrator: Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen !Welcome to our Halloween party!Today you will see a competition of two teams: the team of the 5A class and the team of the 5B class. This competition has a name: “The Club of Merry and Inventive Persons” and is devoted to Halloween. So all the tasks are connected with this funny and at the same time horror holiday. First of all let the two teams greet each other. (greetings)

Teams: Hello! We are… (the name of the team). Our captain is…

Narrator: Don’t be afraid if you see ghosts, goblins and black cats today at our party. Oh! I see the first people who have come to our party – they are witches!

(dance of witches)

Narrator: The witches did their magic very well. Let’s thank them.

(a storm of applause)

But the witches have brought a few tasks. Can you solve them?

During the previous lessons the children prepared the tasks on coloured sheets of paper; and the teacher selects the best tasks: 3 of them for each team.

The tasks are like this one:

Hidden Halloween Words

Circle each Halloween word hidden in the word search.

S K E L E T O N J

A L P U M P K I N

The time is limited; and each team takes part in guessing the words. Then the sheets are given to the jury.

Narrator: During the holiday people not only solve different problems, but do a lot of tricks. The first trick is to put a tail on the donkey in the right place.

A big picture of a donkey with no tail is on the board; three participants from each team with their eyes covered try to put a tail in the right place.

Narrator: I don’t think that a donkey with no tail or scary pictures with hidden words have frightened you. Who has a scary story to tell us?

Now come the pupils from each team with their plays.

Play 1

Bloody Peaches

Narrator: Once upon a time there was a family. There were three of them: a mother, a father and a son. In the evening of the 31st of October they were having dinner. They had already eaten their mushroom soup, meat and potatoes, salad, chicken pie, and suddenly mother realised that she had forgotten to put some dessert on the table.

Mother: Oh! Where are the peaches? I think they are in the cellar. Robert, go to the cellar and bring the peaches.

Robert: OK.

Narrator: He goes downstairs to the cellar, opens the door, and has a feeling that there is somebody in the room. He looks around, but doesn’t see anybody. On the shelf he sees the peaches.

Robert: Ah! Here are the peaches.

Narrator: But when he wants to take the peaches he hears a strange voice.

Voice: Don’t take my bloody peaches! Go away!

It’s better to use a tape-recorder to reproduce the voice. It’ll sound more horrifying. One of the pupils can record his voice and another person from the group may be responsible for playing the tape-recorder.

Narrator: Robert is frightened and he runs up to the sitting-room.

Robert: I haven’t brought the peaches. I couldn’t find them. Ask father to bring them.

Mother: Go to the cellar, my darling, and bring the peaches, please.

Father: OK.

Narrator: He goes downstairs, opens the door and on the shelf he sees the peaches. He wants to take them.

Father: Here they are.

Narrator: He hears the same strange voice:

Voice: Don’t take my bloody peaches! Go away!

Narrator: Father is afraid too and he runs up to the room.

Father: I haven’t brought the peaches. Go to the cellar yourself.

Mother: Oh! These men! They can’t do anything properly. I’ll go to the cellar and bring the peaches.

Narrator: And she goes to the cellar. She hears the same strange voice again.

Voice: Don’t take my bloody peaches! Go away!

Mother: I am not afraid of you. I need these peaches and I’ll take them.

Narrator: An hour passed, but nobody came. Robert and Father decided to go to the cellar together. They opened the door and on the floor they saw their dead mother and bloody peaches around her.

Voice: Ha-ha-ha!

Play 2

Snow White

Narrator: Many years ago in the winter the Queen had a baby. The child was as white as snow and the Queen called her Snow White/ But soon the Queen died and the King married again. The new Queen was a Witch. She had a magic mirror. She usually asked:

Queen:

Mirror, mirror on the wall
Among the ladies in this land
Who is the fairest of them all?

Narrator: And the mirror usually answered:

Mirror:

Young Queen
You are the fairest of them all.

(It’s better to record the voice of one of the girls of the group to make it sound more mysterious.)

Narrator: Soon Snow White grew up and became very beautiful. And then one day the Queen asked:

Queen:

Mirror, mirror on the wall
Among the ladies in this land
Who is the fairest of them all?

Narrator: The mirror replied:

Mirror:

Young Queen
Young Queen
Among the ladies on this land
You’re very-very nice
But Snow White is more beautiful than you.

Narrator: The Queen became very angry. She called a servant and said to him.

Queen: Take this young girl to the forest and kill her. Then I’ll give you a bag of gold.

Narrator: They went to the forest.

Servant: I must kill you.

Snow White: Don’t kill me, please. Take my ring and let me go. I’ll never return home, I promise you.

Narrator: So, she went alone through the forest and came to a little cottage. Seven dwarfs lived there.

Dwarfs:

What’s you name?
Who are you?
Why did you come to the forest?

Snow White: My name is Snow White. I came here because my stepmother wanted to kill me.

Dwarfs: Come, stay with us.

Narrator: But one day the Queen looked in her mirror again and asked.

Queen:

Mirror, mirror on the wall
Among the ladies in this land
Who is the fairest of them all?

Narrator: And the mirror answered:

Mirror:

Young Queen
Young Queen
Among the ladies on this land
You’re very-very nice
But Snow White is more beautiful than you.

Queen: I’ll kill the Princess!

Narrator: She put on witches’ clothes and went to the forest. She saw the dwarfs’ cottage. She knocked at the door.

Queen: I’m a poor woman. Can you give me some meat and bread?

Snow White: Of course, I can.

Queen: Thank you very much. You are a very good girl! And this apple is for you.

Snow White: What a lovely apple. Thank you.

Queen: Bye!

Snow White: How nice this apple is! I want to taste it.Oh!

She falls on the floor

Narrator: Now it’s time for fun.

Contest 1

From a bowl full of water participants are to take an apple with their mouth only; not using their hands.
three participants from each team

Contest 2

Participants are to eat the apples tied to a rope without using their hands. A teacher will hold the free end of the rope.
(three from each team)

Narrator: Now it’s time for the captains’ contest.

Depending on the time left they may have one or two tasks.

1. On the chess-board there are squares. Using a chess-horse the captains must find the hidden sentence:

2. From these words make up a scary/funny story skeleton; pumpkin; ghost; howl; treat; jack-o-lantern

Narrator: Let’s ask the jury to decide who was the best at our party. Thank you for coming. Bye.
